“Coming Home”

As we look upon these dogs at the end of an arduous race, we can imagine where the

term “dog tired” comes from! Able to hunt seals, protect Inuit from polar bear attacks

and instinctively guide a dog sled home in a blizzard, these dogs have served the Inuit

for over 4000 years. Born to pull, they seem truly happiest conjoined in a harness,

working together in a common effort to draft a full sled in sub zero temperatures.

The “Canadian Inuit Dog” or “Qimmiq” has been adopted by the government of Nunavut

as its official animal symbol.

“While I loved the idea of painting these lovely creatures, it was capturing the unique

quality of Arctic light that inspired me to paint this image”, remarks, Zinour.

“It is something that is almost impossible to do unless you have experienced it yourself.”
