“REINDEER RACING”

Apparently if you harness domesticated caribou to a sled in winter and guide them with a wooden switch, they will take you places! Inspired by Siberia’s “Reindeer Herder’s Holiday”, Zinour painted this piece to celebrate this fascinating annual event.

The drivers are the Hunti and Nentsi Inuit of the Siberian Plains. These people have been successfully raising and herding reindeer for market for many years. They and their families still follow the nomadic reindeer herds thus are intricately tied to these fascinating animals.
